With organisations increasingly seeing the benefits of promoting health and wellbeing in the workplace, as well as improved community engagement and good corporate responsibility, its a great time to approach your employer about getting involved in Meat Free Week.
Whether it is supporting your own Meat Free Week efforts, getting your work team to take the challenge or inviting the whole company to raise funds for a great cause, Meat Free Week provides a fabulous opportunity for team building, PR opportunities and good news stories.
Not to mention the chance to educate staff about all the little changes that can add up to make a big difference to their health and wellbeing.
Some workplace activities you might like to try include:
+ Hold an event such as a luncheon or morning tea. Have your work colleagues bring a plate of food to share (meat-free of course!) and charge an entry fee to all participants.
+ Host a cook-off for Meat Free Week. Start a team and have participants compete to raise the most money. Investigate if your employer matches charity donations (many large and/or community conscious organisations do). They may be willing to give a donation to the winner.
+ Ask your HR department if they can put a posting about your fundraising on the company intranet or in the company newsletter.
+ Put up an event poster around the office that you can download from the Meat Free Week Resources webpage.
+ Find the star bakers in your office by holding a Great Office Bake-Off. Encourage work colleagues to raise money for Meat Free Week and have their baked goods judged in the competition. Select a panel of judges who get to taste all the baked goodies and pick the winner. Why not look at our recipes for some inspiration.
+ Many of us love a morning coffee or tea to help us start our day but the cost can add up quickly — think of how much money your office could raise if everyone got together and donated the cost of their morning coffee run to Meat Free Week! Set up a fundraising page where your work colleagues can donate the cost of the weeks’ worth of coffee to Bowel Cancer Australia.
+ Collect gold coins at your workplace for Meat Free Week. Every coin counts!
+ A swear jar can be a handy way to fundraise for Meat Free Week if everyone is not participating whilst also creating good habits, whether at home or at work. Any slip of the tongue equals a coin in the jar.
+ If you are feeling adventurous and are confident in your own culinary skills, then why not host a dinner party for some work colleagues, friends or family? You can ask all your guests for a donation when they arrive.
